William Brooks Simmons, age 78, of Buchanan, TN, died Wednesday December 7, 2016, at Baptist Memorial Hospital, in Memphis, TN.
Brooks was a lifelong servant, member, and deacon at Buchanan Baptist Church. He worked at Tappan in Murray, KY, farmed, and owned and operated Buchanan Woodyard for many years. He belonged to the Buchanan Masonic Lodge, and enjoyed trap shooting and riding horses. He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and he loved his dog, King.
He was born April 29, 1938, in Murray, KY, to the late William “Bill” Charles Simmons and the late Madie Alice Vaughn Simmons.
He was married on May 17, 1958, to Sarah Ferguson Simmons of Buchanan, TN, who survives.
Along with his wife, he is also survived by three daughters, Kathy (Jackie) Heath of Buchanan, TN; Beverly (David) Wallace of Buchanan, TN; and Deborah (Gary) Green of Terrell, TX; six grandchildren, Andy (Tammy) Clayton, Dustin (Jacklyn) Clayton, David (Candi) Wallace III, Kyle (Tiffany) Wallace, Brad (Janie Ruth) Green, and Wesley (Amber) Green; and thirteen great-grandchildren.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister and one brother, both in infancy.
Visitation will be held Friday, December 9, 2016, from 4-7 p.m. at Ridgeway Funeral Home, and Saturday, December 10, 2016 after 11 a.m. at Buchanan Baptist Church in Buchanan, TN. His funeral service will be held Saturday, December 10, 2016 at 1 PM at Buchanan Baptist Church, with Tony Chester and Joe Ed Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Buchanan Baptist Cemetery.
Pallbearers for the service will be Andy Clayton, Joe Clayton, Dustin Clayton, David Wallace, Kyle Wallace, Wesley Green, and George Lowe.
Named as honorary pallbearers are Alex Wallace, Shane Wallace, and Joe Wallace.
