Virginia Ruth “Sissy” Sowell, age 86, of Paris, Tenn., died Saturday, September 13, 2014, at her residence in Paris, Tenn.

She was married April 27, 1946 to William Marshall Sowell, and he survives.

Sissy was a member of the Apostolic Church in Paris, TN.    She was a very loving family person that cared about her family, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren.

She was born November 18, 1927 in Indianapolis, IN to the late Luther Allen Briggs and the late Era Bunch Calvert Briggs.

Besides her husband, she is also survived by her Two Daughters,  Mary (Jerry) Davis of Buchanan, Tenn,  Denise (David) Bomar of Paris, Tenn,  One Son,  Mark (Sheila) Sowell of Buchanan, Tenn,  One Sister,  Nancy Christ of California;  Four Brothers,  Luther "Junior" (Wanda) Briggs of Paris, Tenn;  Ray (Elaine) Briggs of North Carolina,  Tommy (Paula) Briggs of California,  Frank (Carolyn) Briggs of California; 9 Grandchildren, 18 Great Grandchildren, and 6 Great Great Grandchildren.

Besides her parents, she was also preceded in death by a Son,  Willy Sowell;  Sisters,  Dorothy DeLong, and Jackie Cooper;  Brothers,  Wesley Briggs, Doug Briggs, and Charles Briggs.

Arrangements are being handled by Ridgeway Funeral Home, 201 Dunlap St., Paris, Tenn., where the visitation will be from 4 – 7 pm Tuesday, September 16, 2014.   Visitation will continue from 10am – 12pm   Wednesday, September 17, 2014  at the Henry County Tabernacle.   The Funeral Service will be at Henry County Tabernacle at 12:00 PM Wednesday, September 17, 2014.

Dwight Turner will  officiate.    Pallbearers will be Wesley Bomar, Frank Patterson, John Patterson, Jamie Mead, Josh Sowell, and Jacob Mead.

Interment will follow in  Community Cemetery in Springville, Tenn.

Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN  38105.
