Van Thompson, age 85 of Puryear, TN, died Saturday, July 25, 2020, at his residence.
He was a graduate of Puryear High School in 1953, and went on to serve in the National Guard. He worked for LN Railroad, and later retired after working several years as a conductor for CSX. He was a member of Puryear United Methodist Church, and was an Atlanta Braves baseball fan, and an avid supporter of anything his granddaughters were doing.
Van was born April 12, 1935 in Puryear, TN, to the late Atkins Thompson and late Myrle Vandyke Thompson.
He married on November 15, 1958 to Myra Dell Hill Thompson, who survives of Puryear, TN.
Along with his wife, he is also survived by one son, Eddie (Donna) Thompson of Puryear, TN; one sister, Vanita Paschall of Puryear, TN; one brother, Joe Thompson of Hazel, Ky; and two grandchildren, Cayley (Taylor) Lawley and Emma Thompson.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Eddie Thompson, and Jerry Thompson.
Arrangements are being handled by Ridgeway Funeral Home, 201 Dunlap St, Paris, TN 38242. Visitation will be Tuesday, July 28, 2020, at Ridgeway Funeral Home from 4 – 7 pm, and continue on Wednesday July 29, 2020 from 10 – 11 am. The funeral service will be Wednesday July 29, 2020 at 11:00 am at LeDon Chapel of Ridgeway Funeral Home with David Allbritten officiating. The family is requesting that all friends and family wear face protection and practice social distancing for the safety of everyone.
Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
Burial will follow in Puryear City Cemetery.
