Thomas Vethro "V" Ables

Thomas Vethro “V” Ables, age 93 of Cottage Grove, TN, died Friday, December 20, 2019, at Henry County Medical Center in Paris, TN.

He was a lifelong farmer and a school bus driver for the Henry County School System for over 20 years.  Thomas was a WWII veteran serving in the U.S. Marines in China and Japan where he guarded the U.S. Embassy.  He enjoyed fishing and spending time with his family.  He was a member of Cottage Grove Baptist Church

Thomas was born July 6, 1926 in Cottage Grove, TN, to the late Virchel E. Ables and the late Virgie Lucille Hill Ables.

He was married May 22, 1948, to Clara Ruth Brown Ables, who preceded him in death on March 8, 2000.

He is survived by one brother, Elmo E. Ables of Mt. Pelia, TN; 29 nieces and nephews; and many great nieces and great nephews.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was also preceded in death by two sisters, Zelma N. Bradley and Jo Ann Venable; and two brothers, Clovis D. Ables and Billy E. Ables.

Arrangements are being handled by Ridgeway Funeral Home, 201 Dunlap Street, Paris, TN.  Visitation will be Sunday, December 22, 2019, from 4:00 pm – 7:00 pm at Ridgeway Funeral Home, and continue Monday, December 23, 2019, from 9:00 am – 11:00 am.  The funeral service will be Monday, December 23, 2019, at 11:00 am at LeDon Chapel of Ridgeway Funeral Home, with Chad Kennedy officiating.

Great nephews will serve as pallbearers.

Burial with military honors will be in Walker Cemetery in Paris, TN.
