Shirley Ann Stockdale, born on December 22, 1935, in Whitlock, Tennessee, peacefully passed away at her home on December 31, 2024. She was the cherished daughter of Flossie Mae Davis.

A proud graduate of Puryear School in 1954, Shirley served as president of her senior class and was an active member of the girls’ basketball team and cheerleading squad, earning numerous FHA awards for her dedication and leadership.

Shirley married Ray Stockdale on August 7, 1954 and they relocated to Memphis to attend college.

Shirley furthered her education at the University of Memphis, where she graduated magna cum laude in 1961 with a bachelor’s degree in elementary education, completing her studies in just 2 ½ years. She began her career teaching elementary school in Memphis before embracing her role as a devoted mother.

After her husband Ray's retirement, the couple returned to Paris, where Shirley became actively involved in local charities and organizations. She served as president of the Town and Country FCE Homemaker’s Club, demonstrating her commitment to community service.

Shirley’s passions included entertaining and cooking for friends, reading, painting, sewing, and ceramics. Together with Ray, she enjoyed traveling, fishing, and playing golf. Above all, she cherished her role as “Mema” to her four beloved grandchildren.

Known for her warmth, kindness, and unwavering spirit, Shirley dedicated her life to her family and community, leaving an indelible mark on all who knew her.

She is survived by her son, Scott (Debbie) Stockdale of Murfreesboro, TN, and her daughter, Penny (Larry) Ingle of Paris; four grandchildren: Wyatt (Jessica) Stockdale of Mt. Pleasant, TN; Mitch (Britton) Stockdale of Jackson, TN; Haleigh Savage: Jacob Savage; and one great-granddaughter, Caroline Stockdale of Jackson, TN.

Shirley was predeceased in death by her husband of 62 years Ray Stockdale, her mother Flossie Mae Davis, and three brothers: Boyd, Porter, and Jerry Davis.
