Shirley Barnes, age 84 of Springville, TN, died Monday, March 7, 2022, at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, TN.
She retired from Bellsouth Telephone after working many years, and also worked at Salant & Salant for several years. She sold Mary Kay from her home, was a seamstress, and stayed busy all the time. Shirley enjoyed sewing, crocheting, gardening, and working puzzles. She was a member of Kentucky Lake Road Church of Christ in Buchanan, TN.
Shirley was born June 21, 1937, in Alvarado, TX, to the late Robert John Thomas Vassal and the late Mildred E. Richardson Vassal.
She was married June 21, 1954, to her husband of 67 years, Wortham L. Barnes, who survives, of Springville, TN.
Along with her husband, she is also survived by two sons, Rick (Jenny) Barnes of Joelton, TN, and Mickey G. (Mary) Barnes of Bullhead City, AZ; one sister, Margie (Monroe) Robbins of Paris; one brother, Randall (Kim) Vassal of Buchanan, TN; five grandchildren; and 11 great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by one sister, Phyllis Shell; and two brothers, Albert Vassal and Bobby Vassal.
Arrangements are being handled by Ridgeway Funeral Home, 201 Dunlap Street/PO Box 788, Paris, TN 38242. Visitation will be Saturday, March 12, 2022, from 11:00 am – 1:00 pm at Ridgeway Funeral Home, with the funeral service beginning at 1:00 pm at Ridgeway Funeral Home, with Ed Smith officiating.
Family will serve as pallbearers.
Burial will be in Hickory Flat Cemetery in Cedar Grove, TN.
