Ruth Robbins

Ruth Robbins, age 95 of Paris, TN, died Sunday, August 13, 2023, at Saint Thomas West Hospital in Nashville, TN.

She retired after a 49-year career in education as a teacher.  Ruth taught 20 years at Fitzgerald High School, 29 years at Henry Elementary School, and finished her career at the school she attended growing up.  She received a bachelor’s degree from the University of Tennessee and a master’s degree from Wayne State University in Detroit, MI.  Ruth enjoyed sewing, quilting, and entertaining.  She was a member of Springhill Baptist Church.

Ruth was born June 26, 1928, in Paris, TN, to the late John Henry Steele and the late Nellie Porter Steele.

She was married July 8, 1952, to Johnnie Clinton “Clint” Robbins, who preceded her in death on September 28, 2010.

She is survived by her son, John Robin (Debbie) Robbins of Paris; one sister, Nancy Cate of Paris; three grandchildren, Ryan (Misty) Robbins of Dallas, TX, Jacob (Amy) Robbins of League City, TX, Joanna (Jeremy) Turner of McKenzie, TN; two great grandchildren, Hannah Robbins of League City, TX, and Max Robbins of League City, TX; and a host of nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by three sisters, Mary Scott, Sue Griffin, and Mildred Lankford; and two brothers, Dave Steele and John Steele.

Arrangements are being handled by Ridgeway Funeral Home, 201 Dunlap Street/PO Box 788, Paris, TN 38242.  Visitation will be Thursday, August 17, 2023, from 4:00 pm – 7:00 pm at Ridgeway Funeral Home, and continue Friday, August 18, 2023, from 11:00 am – 1:00 pm.  The funeral service will be Friday, August 18, 2023, at 1:00 pm at Ridgeway Funeral Home, with Emily Walker officiating.

Serving as pallbearers will be Ryan Robbins, Jacob Robbins, Phillip Steele, Andy Griffin, Randy Griffin, and Fred Bowles.

Burial will be in Palestine Cemetery in Paris, TN.
