Ruby Christine Smothers Elkins

Ruby Christine Smothers Elkins, age 85 of Paris, TN, died, Saturday, August 18, 2018, at Henry County Healthcare Center in Paris, TN.

She worked at Emerson Electric in Paris for 10 years, then became disabled during her work there.  Ruby was a volunteer at Henry County Nursing Home and a caregiver for various family members.  She enjoyed gardening and canning and loved her family very much.  She was a member of Temple Baptist Church.

Ruby was born March 8, 1933, in Paris, TN, to the late Elbert Hawkins Smothers and the late Minnie Mae Burnett Smothers.

She was married October 28, 1950, to Charles L. Elkins, who preceded her in death.

She is survived by two daughters, Donna Kay Peeler of Paris, TN, and Rita (Doug) Dotson of Benton, KY; two sons, Steve (Vicki) Elkins of Jackson, TN, and Ray Elkins of Paris, TN; one brother, Lindberg Smothers of Paris, TN; 13 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Along with her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by two sons, Kenny Elkins and Cubby Elkins; one son-in-law, David Peeler; three sisters, Dorothy Nelson, Mavis Reynolds and Ann Elliott; and three brothers, Leaborn Smothers, Paul Smothers, and Junior Smothers.

Arrangements are being handled by Ridgeway Funeral Home, 201 Dunlap St, Paris, TN, where visitation will be Monday, August 20, 2018, from 4:00 pm – 7:00 pm, and continue Tuesday, August 21, 2018, from 10:00 am – 11:00 am.  The funeral service will be Tuesday, August 21, 2018, at 11:00 am at LeDon Chapel of Ridgeway Funeral Home, with Craig Peevyhouse officiating.

Family members will serve as pallbearers.  Honorary pallbearers will be Doug Dotson, Jacob Edwards, and Brian Lea.

Burial will be in Memorial Cemetery in Paris, TN.
