Roger Harris

Roger Rochelle Harris, age 91 of Panama City Beach, FL, formerly of Paris, TN, died Saturday, September 16, 2023, at UAB Hospital in Birmingham, AL.

He retired from CSX Transportation after 33 years as a Terminal Trainmaster.  He was a U.S. Army Korean War veteran.  Roger enjoyed working in his yard, was an extensive traveler, and an avid collector of railroad memorabilia.  He was Methodist by belief.

Roger was born July 20, 1932, in Paris, TN, to the late Guy H. Harris and the late Vera L. Johnson Harris.

He was married July 14, 1956, to his wife of 67 years, Betty Sue Green Harris, who survives.

Along with his wife, he is also survived by three children, Donna (Jim) Harper of Wilsonville, AL, Dale (Nancy) Harris of Bay Minette, AL, and Jeffery (Tammy) Harris of Arley, AL; six grandchildren, Tyler Harris, David Kemper, Laura Kemper, Zack Kemper, Jamey Helton, and Tracy Cribb; several great grandchildren; and a multitude of nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by two sisters, Joy (Malcolm) Taylor, and LaVelle (William) Haynes; and one brother, Cordell (Beatrice) Harris.    

Arrangements are being handled by Ridgeway Funeral Home, 201 Dunlap Street/PO Box 788, Paris, TN 38242.  Visitation will be Thursday, September 21, 2023, from 1:00 pm – 3:00 pm at Ridgeway Funeral Home.  The funeral service will be held Thursday, September 21, 2023, at 3:30 pm at Rose Lawn Mausoleum Chapel in Paris, TN, with Chad Kennedy officiating.  

Family & friends will serve as pallbearers.

Entombment will follow the service in Rose Lawn Mausoleum.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the charity of your choice.  
(Some of Roger’s favorites were St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, the American Cancer Society, Breast Cancer research, and any Animal related Humane Society).
