Robert Earl "Bob" Oliver

Robert Earl “Bob” Oliver, age 82 of Paris, TN, died Thursday, January 10, 2019, at his residence in Paris, TN.

He retired from CSX Railroad after a 28-year career as a brakeman.  He formerly worked at Coca-Cola Bottling Company in Paris for several years.  Robert was born in the Nelson Community on Shady Grove Road, where he stayed all of his life.  He enjoyed camping, horseback riding, and farming.  He also enjoyed his cattle and raising several horses.  He loved his family, especially his children and grandchildren, and time spent with his brothers and sisters while they were all living.   Robert was a member of Sulphur Well Church of Christ in Springville, TN, and a U.S. Army veteran.

Robert was born August 27, 1936, in Paris, TN, to the late James Lilburn Oliver and the late Clara Hays Oliver.

He was married October 4, 1959, to his wife of 59 years, Betty Hamlin Oliver, who survives of Paris, TN.

Along with his wife, he is also survived by one daughter, Connie (Dale) Bell of Paris, TN; one son, Donnie (Melissa Kate) Oliver of Collierville, TN; five grandchildren, Carter Oliver of Collierville, TN, Jack Oliver of Collierville, TN, Robert Dale (Alicia) Bell of Franklin, TN, Mary Kate (Griffin) Paschall of Cottage Grove, TN, and Adam Blake Bell of Paris, TN; two step grandchildren, Heather Bell of Paris, TN, and Raychel (Jason) Sutherland of Paris, TN; one great grandchild on the way; and four step great grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by one sister, Helen Jackson; and two brothers, Carter Hays Oliver and J.L. Oliver, Jr.

Arrangements are being handled by Ridgeway Funeral Home, 201 Dunlap St, Paris, TN, where visitation will be Saturday, January 12, 2019, from 4:00 pm – 7:00 pm, and continue Sunday, January 13, 2019, from 12:00 pm – 2:00 pm.  The funeral service will be Sunday, January 13, 2019, at 2:00 pm at LeDon Chapel of Ridgeway Funeral Home, with Randy Stephens officiating.

Serving as pallbearers will be Robert Dale Bell, Adam Blake Bell, Carter Oliver, Jack Oliver, Griffin Paschall, and Lawrence Jackson.  Named as honorary pallbearers are Windell Flanagan, Joe Oliver, Johnny Oliver, and Jimmy Oliver.

Burial will be at Mt. Zion Church of Christ Cemetery in Buchanan, TN.
