Master Chief Robert Emerson “Monty” Montgomery (USN ret.), age 75, of Buchanan, TN, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 21, 2024, at home surrounded by his loving family and friends.
Robert proudly served his country in the United States Navy, with deployments including Vietnam and postings in Brunswick, Maine, Millington, TN, and Sigonella, Sicily.
He found great joy in outdoor pursuits such as fishing and hunting, and was dedicated to helping others. As a member of the Masonic Lodge, Robert cherished participating in the World’s Biggest Fish Fry, in Paris, TN, where he and his fellow Masons cooked hushpupppies for the community.
Robert was a faithful member of Antioch United Methodist Church and later attended TVCC in Paris, TN. His philanthropic spirit shone through his leadership in the local Parrothead Club, Last Mango in Paris, which he co-founded with his wife, Doris. Together, they raised funds for numerous charities, including Alzheimer's research and supporting events for Wounded Warriors. Most recently, Robert passionately backed the National POW/MIA Memorial & Museum in Jacksonville, FL.
Born April 9, 1949, in Homestead, PA, Robert was the son of the late Robert James Montgomery and Jane Elizabeth Grove Montgomery.
In addition to his beloved wife of more than 40 years, Doris Grant Montgomery, Robert is survived by his daughter, Dawn Montgomery of Denver, CO; stepdaughter, Christy (Chuck) Pickel of Hernando, MS; brothers, Gary (Pearl) Montgomery of Pleasant Hills, PA, and John Dean (Kathy) Montgomery of West Mifflin, PA; as well as several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by stepdaughter, Teresa Goodman.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 24, 2024, from 11 am until 12:45 pm at Ridgeway Funeral Home, followed by a Masonic Service at 12:45 pm and the funeral service at 1 pm, officiated by Steve Gallimore.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Robert's honor, either online at www.stjude.org or by mail to 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
Robert will be laid to rest with military honors at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, VA, at a later date.
