Richard Frederick “Dick” Hartfelder, age 89 of Springville, TN, died Friday, April 28, 2023, at the Tennessee State Veterans Home in Humboldt, TN.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving during the Korean and Vietnam Wars, retiring as Lt. Commander. He served on the first nuclear powered USS Nautilus SSN-571. Dick was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus #7086, and the Holy Cross Catholic Assembly Knights of Columbus 2673. He was a realtor for Town & Country Realty in Camden for several years.
Dick was born January 22, 1934, in New York, NY, to the late Leo Hartfelder and the late Ruth Kegal Hartfelder.
He was married March 24, 1961, to his wife of 61 years, Catherine Grace Carden Hartfelder, who preceded him in death on December 6, 2022.
He is survived by four children, Taffy (Alan) Stockdale of Springville, TN; Edward Teddy Hartfelder of Scranton, PA, Richard Leo “Randy” (Laura) Hartfelder of Brentwood, TN, and Kenneth “Ken” (Cindy) Hartfelder of VA; grandchildren, T.J. (Kelsey) Stockdale; Mary Grace (Charles) Russell, Alex Hartfelder, Jack Hartfelder, Joe Hartfelder, and Heidi Hartfelder; and two great grandchildren, Finn Stockdale and Gracie Stockdale.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was also preceded in death by one sister and brother-in-law, Ruth (Harry) Rausch.
Arrangements are being handled by Ridgeway Funeral Home, 201 Dunlap Street/PO Box 788, Paris, TN 38242. The body is to be cremated. A private family graveside service will be held at Holy Mist Cemetery in Springville, TN.
