Paul J. Monroe, age 73 of Paris, TN, died Thursday, March 15, 2018, at Saint Thomas Rutherford Hospital in Murfreesboro, TN.
He was a retired, self-employed mechanic. He was a member of Union Friendship Baptist Church. He loved fishing, watching wrestling and westerns on TV. He enjoyed going to church and spending time with his family and grandchildren.
Paul was born August 9, 1944, in Peoria, IL, to the late Benjamin Traver and the late Florence Loretta Kee Devore.
He was married August 24, 2013, to Ruth Helbert Monroe, who survives, of Paris, TN.
Along with his wife, he is also survived by eight children, James Monroe, Sr., of Cloverport, TN, Evelyn (Lamont) Edlin of Gustin, KY, David (Tammy) Monroe of Virdin, IL, Paula (Michael) Ferguson of Henry, TN, Paul (Suzanne) Monroe of Martin, TN, Shelia Carter of McKenzie, TN, Suealice (John) Maturo of McKenzie, TN, and Grant (Angela) Monroe of McKenzie, TN; two sisters, Shirley Burnett of Pekin, IL, and Peggy Royster of Arizona; 19 grandchildren, James Monroe, Jr., Mecayela Monroe, Keating Monroe, Kelsey Ferguson, Charity Ferguson, Deven (Christina) Brewer, Brandon (Holly) Hearson, Nick (Christina) Hearson, Dakota Hearson, LeAnn (Randy) Florey, Abigail Monroe, Courtney Monroe, Elizabeth Carter, John Maturo, Jr., Gregory Maturo, Nathaniel Maturo, Isabella Maturo, Shyanne Williamson, and Angel Madden; and 22 great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his first wife, Laura Faye Turner; his second wife, Shelia Ann Monroe; two sisters, Suzie Traver and Nancy Wilson; and one brother, Jim Traver.
Arrangements are being handled by Ridgeway Funeral Home, 201 Dunlap St, Paris, TN. Visitation will be Monday, March 19, 2018, from 12:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m., at Union Friendship Baptist Church in Henry, TN, with the funeral service beginning at 2:00 p.m. with Thomas Winchester officiating.
Serving as pallbearers will be Dakota Hearson, Deven Brewer, Randy Florey, Jason Freeland, Junior Enyart, and Grant Monroe.
Burial will follow in Rose Lawn Memory Garden in Paris, TN.
