Paul William Spandikow, 89, passed away on Saturday, January 9, 2016, at his vacation home in Springville, TN. He was born on July 14, 1926 in Oak Park, IL to Elmer and Amanda (Giertz) Spandikow.
Paul grew up in Melrose Park, IL. He graduated as valedictorian from East Leyden High School in Franklin Park, IL. He was inducted into the United States Navy in 1944 and served for 2 years where he served on the Piedmont, Ar 532 and USS Abnaki AFT 96. He was discharged in 1946, achieving the rank of Electricians Mate Third Class.
Paul married Beth Hester in 1948 in Rushville, IN. They were happily married for 40 years. After Beth’s death in 1988, he married Betty Wagner in 1993. They were married for 15 years before her death in 2008.
Paul was a man of faith and a member of Christ Lutheran Church in Paris, TN. He was also a long time member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Melrose Park, IL. He enjoyed model railroading, reading, jigsaw puzzles and square dancing.
Paul was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Amanda Spandikow, his wives, Beth and Betty Spandikow, his son, Paul Curtis Spandikow, and his grandson, David Spandikow Jr.
Paul is survived by his sons, Mark (Donna) Spandikow of Glen Ellyn, IL, John (Deborah) Spandikow of Seaford, DE, David Spandikow of Springville, TN; his daughters, Pamela Reese of Evanston, IL, Bonnie (Chip) Dice of Danbury, CT, Connie (Gerardo) Perez of Gilberts, IL; his daughter-in-law Sharon (Mike) Owens of IN; his grandchildren Justin Spandikow, Jennifer Wallis, Mark Spandikow Jr., Steven Spandikow, Heidi Spandikow, Christopher Spandikow, Emily Wescott, Alyssa Fuller, Charlette Pruett, Jennifer Karijolic, Alex Reese, Eric Reese, Greg Giltner, Jessica Dice, Taylor Dice, Erin Barth, Tatiana Bissonnette; and his great-grandchildren Paul Spandikow, Auberon Wescott, Crawford and Deliana Spandikow, Gauge Dice, and Persephone and Daphne Barth.
Visitation and memorial services will be held at the Ridgeway Funeral Home, 201 Dunlap St., Paris, TN on Tuesday, January 12 from 12 - 3 pm with a service at 3:00 pm and also at the Bormann Funeral Home, 1600 Chicago Ave., Melrose Park, IL, on Saturday, January 16 beginning at 9am with a service at 11am.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to Christ Lutheran Church, 3235 US-79, Paris, TN 38242 or St. Paul Lutheran Church, 1025 W Lake St., Melrose Park, IL 60160.
