Paul M. Schueler, age 90 of Cottage Grove, died Monday, December 9, 2024, at his residence.
Paul retired from Molin Auto Parts after 40 years of employment, where he was the store manager of the Springville, NY store.
Upon retirement, Paul enjoyed making wooden toys including fire trucks, bulldozers, tractors, and road graders. He also used his woodworking talents to make bird houses, Fire engine mailboxes, lighthouses with working solar lights, and the most comfortable Adirondack chairs ever made. For many years both children and those young at heart would look for his toys at the Holy Cross Catholic Church Octoberfest and other local craft fairs.
Paul was coaxed out of his retirement and served as the Cottage Grove city manager for several years. During his tenure as city manager the Cottage Grove Water Tower project was completed and stands today as a proud monument to the City of Cottage Grove.
Paul served his Country as a firefighter in the US Air Force Reserves; a member of the Niagara Falls ARS Fire Department. He retired with an honorable discharge after 20 years of service. Paul was proud to be a US Air Force Reserve veteran.
Paul joined his father and brother as lifetime members of the Springville (NY) Volunteer Fire department. The Schueler men have over 100 years of volunteer firefighting service that continues today with the active service of his beloved nephew Robert Schueler of Springville NY. Paul continued his volunteer service as a member of Erie County (NY) Fire Chiefs Association and an honorary member of the Henry County (TN) Fire Chiefs.
Paul was a member of the St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Springville, New York and Holy Cross Catholic Church in Paris.
Born October 30, 1934, in Springville, NY, Paul was the son of the late Valentine Fredrick Schueler and the late Juliette Goetz Schueler.
Paul married Carol Fuller Schueler May 16, 1964, in the St. Aloysius Church. In addition to raising their two sons, Paul and Carol participated as an emergency placement home for foster children in Erie County NY. Over a ten-year period, they welcomed a total of 15 children into a loving Christian home in service of both community and Christ.
After moving to Cottage Grove upon retirement, Paul and Carol would celebrate their anniversary every month on the 16th of the month. Carol survives her loving husband in Cottage Grove.
Along with his wife of 60 years, he is also survived by a son, Jeff Schueler of Brentwood, TN.
In addition to his parents, Paul was also preceded in death by a son, Andrew Paul Schueler; a sister, Valerie Ott; and two brothers, Harry Schueler and Alan Schueler.
Ridgeway Funeral Home 201 Dunlap St./P.O. Box 788, Paris, TN 38242, will be handling the arrangements. His body is to be cremated with a memorial mass held Friday, December 20, 2024, at 12:00 pm at the Holy Cross Catholic Church in Paris. There will also be a memorial mass and internment at St. Aloysius Church in Springville NY in Spring 2025.
In lieu of flowers in memory of Paul M. Schueler, the family is requesting donations be made to Holy Cross Catholic Church in Paris or St. Aloysius Church in Springville, NY in his name.
