Nellie Mae Canoy

Nellie Mae Canoy, age 97 of Paris, passed away Wednesday, January 22, 2025, at The Farms at Puryear. 

She was born on August 9, 1927, to the late Roy George and the late Gretchen Horne Diehl.

On May 17, 1958, Nellie married James Lesley Canoy in Nebraska, who preceded her in death.

She was a member of Rehobeth United Methodist Church and had a passion for gardening and solving crossword puzzles.

Nellie is survived by her five children, Cynthia (Rex) Grimmett of Paris, Barbara McDonald of Paris, James Canoy Jr. of Paris, Jana (Randy) Hurley of Asheboro, NC, and Becky Canoy of Ramseur, NC; six grandchildren, Marissa (Tim) Jones, Matt (Lyndsey) Grimmett, Melanie (Tim) Holt, Daniel (Amber) Hurley, Renell (Tim) Fields, and Reid (Molly) Phillips; and 13 great-grandchildren. 

In addition to her husband and her parents, she is preceded in death by one brother, Melvin George, and one sister, Betty Huffman. 

Ridgeway Funeral Home, 201 Dunlap Street, Paris, TN, 38242, is handling the arrangements. Her remains are to be cremated with no public services planned at this time. A private family service is to be scheduled in North Carolina in April.
