Mobley, 88, died Friday, March 29, 2013, at
University of North Carolina Hospital in Chapel
Hill, N.C.
Born May 21, 1924, in Newton, Miss., she was a daughter of
the late Robert Waldo Holladay and Merie Clark Holladay.
She was married on June 12, 1947, to Emmett Paul Mobley Jr.,
who survives. He was a longtime Paris physician.
A family member said Mary Ruth spent her long life and many
talents in service to others. She was a strong champion and an
effective role model for Girl Scouting in West Tennessee, and
enjoyed sharing her love of the natural world with young girls.
Her nursing career touched the lives of hundreds of patients
and fledgling nurses. Her love for her children and her devotion
to her husband of 65 years was an inspiration to all who knew
her.
A member of First United Methodist Church in Paris, she was
a true Christian whose actions spoke for her faith. Her last years
were spent in North Carolina surrounded by the next three generations
of her family and a strong community of new friends.
She retired after 17 years as charge nurse at Henry County
Medical Center.
Besides her husband, she leaves two daughters: Margaret
Mobley and husband David Anderson of Mebane and Robin
Kitchens of Wilmington, N.C.; one son: Paul Mobley III of Maui,
Hawaii;
Five grandchildren: Stephanie Trueblood, Julia Mobley,
Michael Mobley, Emily Anderson and Daniel Mobley; and three
great-grandchildren: Sam Trueblood, Lily Trueblood and Eliza
Rosalie Mobley Botts.
She also was preceded in death by one daughter: Mary Sandra
Mobley; one sister: Margaret Holladay Armstrong; and one
brother: Bill Holladay.
