Mary Virginia White Armour

Mary Virginia White Armour, age 92 of Puryear, TN, passed away Tuesday, March 21, 2023, at the home of her granddaughters, Tammy and Heidi Hordyk, where she lived.

Mary was born November 7, 1930, to the late Albert J. and the late Virginia Lumm White. 

She married her beloved late husband, James W. Armour on July 17, 1948, and they were married 65 years before his death in 2014.

She worked as a meat wrapper for many years alongside her husband who was a meat cutter and market manager for Stepherson’s Big Star grocery stores.  Mary was a faithful and loving elder’s wife of the Christian church that met in their home for over 60 years.  Her faithfulness and example in life will be sorely missed by many.

She leaves and is survived by two daughters, Rebecca (Dwight) Hordyk of Puryear, TN, and Cynthia (Richard) Rector of Memphis, TN; one son, Tim (Shamela) Armour of Cape Girardeau, MO; four grandchildren, Tammy Hordyk of Puryear, TN, Heidi Hordyk of Puryear, TN, James (Misty) Rector of Murray, KY, and Amanda Marsh of Dallas, TX; and several great-grandchildren. 

In addition to her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by two sisters, Helen Barnard and Marjorie Doty; and a granddaughter,  Lori "Mikki" Taylor.

The family would like to give special love and thanks to Marilyn Holt and Barbara Bruce, her loving sitters, as well as her hospice nurses and aides. 

Arrangements are being handled by Ridgeway Funeral Home, 201 Dunlap Street/PO Box 788, Paris, TN 38242.  Local visitation will be Saturday, March 25, 2023, from 2:00 pm – 4:00 pm at Ridgeway Funeral Home, with the funeral service beginning at 4:00 pm at Ridgeway Funeral Home.

Out-of-town visitation will be held Monday, March 27, 2023, from 11:00 am – 12:30 pm at Memorial Park Funeral Home, 5668 Poplar Avenue, Memphis, TN 38119.  A graveside service will be held Monday, March 27, 2023, at 1:00 pm at Memorial Park Cemetery in Memphis, TN.

Burial will follow the graveside service in Memorial Park Cemetery.
