Marion Elroy "Shorty" Roney

Marion Elroy “Shorty” Roney, age 80 of Paris, TN, died Friday, December 21, 2018, at Morningside of Paris.

He retired as a foreman after several years with Imperial Irrigation District in Imperial, CA.  After retirement, he moved back to Paris to be closer to family.  Shorty loved his grandchildren, being around his family, and enjoyed fishing.  He was a U.S. Navy veteran and a member of Grace Baptist Church in Paris.

Shorty was born December 31, 1937, in Big Sandy, TN, to the late Marion Alonzo Roney and the late Alma Deliah Doty Roney.

He was married April 30, 1958, to Alice Rowena Robbins Roney, who preceded him in death on September 2, 2018.

He is survived by three daughters, Debbie (Jose) Villanueva of Lake City, TX, Lisa (Troy) Pritchett of Paris, TN, and Lori (Mark) Watkins of Almo, KY; two sons, Joe (Dee Ann) Roney of Henry, TN, and Melvin (Patricia) Roney of Paris, TN; one sister, Annie Ruth Holland of Murfreesboro, TN; one brother, James Vernon Roney of Tempe, AZ; 20 grandchildren, Shawn Roney, Phillip Roney, Jossey Villanueva, Jessica Solorio, Stephanie Caldwell, Ryan Roney, Braden Roney, Cody Roney, Mary Roney, Veronica Whitehead, Eddie Chapman, Joshua Gates, Alice Wozniak, Tyler Pritchett, Sage Pritchett, Brandon Carter, Amber Carter, Chynna Haas, Emma Watkins, and Samuel Watkins; 22 great grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was also preceded in death by six sisters, Meriam Eunice Roney, Melvia Imogene French, Edna Gatha Russell, Alma Leona Christopher, Silvia Joyce Dobbs, and Betty Virginia Roney; five brothers, Henry Gordon Roney, Austin Winfred Roney, Morris Alton Roney, William Owen Roney, and Doyle Alonzo Roney; and three more siblings who died in infancy.

Arrangements are being handled Ridgeway Funeral Home, 201 Dunlap St, Paris, TN, where visitation will be on Thursday, December 27, 2018, from 10:00 am – 12:00 pm, with the funeral service beginning at 12:00 pm at LeDon Chapel of Ridgeway Funeral Home, with Bro. Jack Thacker officiating.

The body is to be cremated following the funeral service.
