His wife, Mildred Theresa “Terry” Krell Varneke, survives. They were married on Nov. 19, 1979.
The body was cremated.
No service or visitation is planned. Ridgeway Funeral Home handled arrangements.
Born May 30, 1951, in Weehawken, N.J., he was a son of the late Joseph Varneke Sr. and Catherine Secor Varneke.
Varneke was a former paramedic and fireman in Lakewood, N.J., a life member of the Elks Lodge and a Catholic. His wife said he was a hard worker and family always came first with him, and he loved playing cards.
He also leaves one daughter: Renee (Shawn) Stanley of Lakewood; four sons: Michael (Amy) Varneke, Phillip (Donna) Varneke and Thomas Varneke, all of Paris, and Joseph A. Varneke III of Lakewood;
One sister: Marilyn Varneke of Columbus, Ohio; one brother: Thomas Varneke of Lakewood; and five grandchildren: Phillip, Roger and Rebecca Varneke, all of Paris, Jaylynn Varneke of Camden and Catherine Stanley of Lakewood.
