John Thomas “Tommy” Wright, age 92 of Scottsboro, AL, formerly of Henry County, died Wednesday, December 8, 2021, at Highlands Medical Center in Scottsboro.
He retired after 35 years with Tennessee Valley Authority where he worked as a warehouse manager. He was a member of Puryear United Methodist Church in Puryear, TN. Tommy was a U.S. Air Force veteran, where he was stationed in Washington D.C. and worked at the Pentagon. He enjoyed camping and traveling all over the United States. He loved hunting, woodworking, art, and especially his cat, “Speedy.”
Tommy was born March 15, 1929, in Mansfield, TN, to the late William Fleetwood Wright and the late Delma Yarbrough Wright.
He was married April 25, 1952, to Joan Patricia “Pat” Wright, who preceded him in death on May 2, 2020.
He is survived by his five sons, Brady (Shirley) Wright of Chattanooga, TN, Brian (Betty) Wright of Scottsboro, AL, Barry (Renay) Wright of Scottsboro, AL, Benny (Shelia) Wright of Scottsboro, AL, and Brent Wright of Paris, TN; two sisters, Peggy Sommers of the Vale community of Carroll County, TN, and Betty Roberts of Hollow Rock, TN; 18 grandchildren; and 27 great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was also preceded in death by two brothers, Kenneth Wright and Ed Wright; and one grandchild, Greg Keeton.
Arrangements are being handled by Ridgeway Funeral Home, 201 Dunlap Street/PO Box 788, Paris, TN 38242. Visitation will be Saturday, December 11, 2021, from 10:30 am – 11:30 am at Ridgeway Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, December 11, 2021, at 12:00 pm at New Hope Cemetery in the Vale community of Carroll County, TN, with Latricia Trull officiating.
Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
Burial will follow the graveside service in New Hope Cemetery.
