John Hill Steele, Sr., 88, passed away at his home in Paris, TN on Friday, June 17, 2022. He is survived by three children: Sharon Loveall of Paris, John (Kathy) Steele, Jr. of Paris, and David (Sharon Silva) Steele of Clarksville, TN. He is also survived by two sisters: Ruth Robbins of Paris and Nancy Cate of Paris.
Arrangements are being handled by Ridgeway Funeral Home, 201 Dunlap St., Paris, TN 38242. Visitation will be Thursday, June 23, 2022, from 4:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. at Ridgeway Funeral Home. A Graveside Service is scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m. at Palestine Cemetery, 4059 Palestine Rd., Paris, TN 38242 with Dr. Stan Dunagan officiating. In consideration of the forecasted heat, please dress comfortably.
Serving as pallbearers will be Lou Carter, James Gilpatrick, Andy Griffin, Randy Griffin, Jeremy Loveall, Rob Robbins, Daniel Steele, Matthew Steele, and Phillip Steele.
John was born in Henry County, Tennessee, on October 15, 1933, the son of the late Nellie Porter Hill Steele and John Henry Steele. He attended Henry School. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War. John was a member of the Paris Police Department and the Paris Fire Department where he achieved the rank of lieutenant. He was a member of the Ambulance Service, served as a deacon of Henry Baptist Church, and is currently a member of Spring Hill Baptist Church. He was a lifetime member of the Registered Quarter Horse Association. John was a farmer after retiring from the Paris Fire Department.
John was preceded in death by one brother, Dave Steele, and three sisters, Mary Scott, Mildred Lankford, & Susie Griffin, and his son-in-law, Mike Loveall.
He is also survived by five grandchildren: Jeremy (Sarah) Loveall, Jessica Loveall (Matt Childers) Seay, Matthew (Brooke) Steele, Daniel (Becca) Steele and Amanda (Mark) Rennie; and six great-grandchildren: Riley, Anna Kate, Dawson, Harper, Mark and Allison. He leaves behind many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends whom he loved dearly.
The family would like to thank the nurses and staff of the Henry County Home Health & Hospice Service with a special thank you to Delana, Denise, Tracey, Verita, and Dr. Stephanie Dunagan. Special thanks also to Dr. James McGee, Dr. David Gibson, Dr. Dana Cardin, and PA-C Valarie Shields. Additionally, we would like to thank all the doctors, nurses and staff at West Cancer Center of Paris. We would also like to thank the members of Maplewood Baptist Church and Spring Hill Baptist Church for their letters of encouragement.
