Joe N. Hamlin, age 78, of Henry, TN, died Monday, May 8, 2017, at Jackson Madison County General Hospital.

Joe was a member of First Baptist Church in McKenzie, TN and was raised Primitive Baptist.  He retired after 40 years as a brick mason.  He served his apprenticeship with Hugh Scudder Construction in Union City, TN.  He worked with Kenny Noles in masonry before becoming a co-owner of Holt Construction Company in Humboldt, TN.  During his high school years, Joe traveled with his uncle, Arlin Bush, shearing sheep in TN, AL, and MS. He graduated from Henry High School in Henry, TN in 1957.   He served 9 years in the National Guard.   Joe was an avid fisherman.  He enjoyed growing tomatoes, gardening, woodworking, raising horses, and camping.

Born February 28, 1939, in Henry, TN, he was the son of the late Lonnie Norris Hamlin and the late Lucille Bush Hamlin.

He married Jerry Haynes Hamlin of Henry, TN on November 24, 1960, and she survives him along with two daughters, LeAnn Hamlin of Kissimmee, FL, and JoEllen Hamlin Garces of Henry, TN.  Additionally, he is survived by three sisters, Doris (John) Chilcutt of Paris, TN, Lonnell Parker of Nashville, TN, and Betty (Robert) Oliver of Paris, TN;  one brother, Lee Roy (Linda) Hamlin of Henry, TN;  two  grandchildren, Nick Garces, and Katelyn Garces both of Collierville, TN; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Joe was preceded in death by a sister, Marie Owens.

Arrangements are being handled by Ridgeway Funeral Home, 201 Dunlap St, Paris, TN where visitation will be on Wednesday, May 10, 2017 from 4 – 8 pm and continue on Thursday from 10 am – 1 pm.   The funeral service will be Thursday, May 11, 2017 at 1:00 pm at LeDon Chapel of Ridgeway Funeral Home with Bud Merwin, Chuck Cooper, and Don Williams officiating.

Pallbearers will be Adron Joyner, Tommy Crane, Kenny Noles, Steve Lewis, Nick Garces, Mike Pillsbury, and Pat Hamlin.  Honorary pallbearers are his nephews.

Burial will follow in Bethlehem Cemetery in Henry, TN.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers and gifts, memorials be made to: Henry County Sheriff’s Department Animal Shelter, P.O. Box 639, Paris, TN 38242;  or   Hoof Beats of Hope, 840 Osage Crossland Road, Puryear, TN  38251.
