Joanne Marie Hurst

Joanne Marie VanCleve Hurst, age 78 of Cottage Grove, Tennessee, passed away December 25, 2024, at her home surrounded by her loved ones. 

Joanne was born September 21, 1946, in Aurora, Illinois to the late Harley Van Cleve and the late Janice McCoy VanCleve. 

Joanne married the love of her life, Robert Hurst, on July 1, 1967. They resided in Yorkville, IL, until moving to Cottage Grove in 1994. Joanne and Robert were married until his passing in 2013. She loved to hunt, fish, crochet, mow, plant flowers, and watch her grandchildren and great grandchildren play baseball, soccer, basketball, and football. She also enjoyed the many picnics with her family and friends.

She is survived by two daughters, Kerrie (Brian) Hurst-Houck and Kimberly (Matt) Bowne both of Cottage Grove, Tennessee; one adopted daughter, Jennifer Diederich of Henry, Tennessee; 5 grandchildren, Brandi (Amber) Bowne of McKenzie, Tennessee, Derick Bowne of Cottage Grove, Tennessee, Donjoel (Paris) Houck of Cottage Grove, Tennessee, Koki Williams of Hastings, Minnesota, and Jordan (John) Griffis of Henry, Tennessee; four great grandchildren, Chasdon Hummel of McKenzie, Tennessee, Brooklyn Griffis, Journey Griffis, and Malice Griffis all of Henry, Tennessee; two sisters, Joylynn (Jack) West of Paris, Tennessee, and Jackie (Eddie) Cook of Grant Pass, Oregon; a brother, Denny (Jackie) VanCleve of Sugar Grove, Illinois; a sister-in-law, Caren Hurst of Montgomery, Illinois and a special nephew, Rick Hurst of Buchanan, Tennessee. 

Joanne also leaves behind two very special friends, Sally Houck of Gleason, Tennessee, and Alberta VanCleve of Dresden, Tennessee, along with many nieces and nephews.

Along with her husband and parents, she was also preceded in death by her sister Phyllis Yonkers, her in-laws Carl and Hellen Hurst, her brother in-law Don Hurst, her sister-in-law Carol Turner, and two nephews Rob Hurst and Scott Hurst. 

Ridgeway Funeral Home 201 Dunlap St./P.O. Box 788, Paris, TN 38242, will be handling the arrangements. Her body was cremated with memorial visitation to be held January 18, 2025, from 2:00 until 5:00 pm with a memorial service to be held Saturday, January 18, 2025, at 5:00 pm at Ridgeway Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Hurst Family.
