Joanne Cox

Joanne Cox age 88 of Franklin, TN, formerly of Paris, died Thursday, November 7, 2024, at The Lantern at Morning Pointe Alzheimer’s Center of Excellence in Franklin.

Joanne retired from Henry County Medical Center where she worked many years as an Administrative Secretary. She enjoyed visiting the beach, attending Tennessee Vols football games, and being active in her church, Springhill Baptist Church, where she was a member. She served as a Girl Scout leader when her daughters were younger. She was a wonderful mom, wife, and friend.

Born January 5, 1936, in Somerset, KY, she was the daughter of the late Claude Phelps, and the late Zula Williams Phelps.

She married Walter D. Cox, Jr., March 30, 1956, and he preceded her in death June 15, 2009.

Survivors include two daughters, Donna J. (Dennis) Banks Franklin, TN, and Traci L. (Tommy) Patrick of Collierville, TN; a step son, Kenneth W. (Wanda) Cox of Bowling Green, KY; a sister, Delores (Norman) Ard, of Somerset, KY; four grandchildren, Cynthia (Becky Buist) of Canon City, CO, Elizabeth Banks of Pueblo West, CO, Sarah (Adam) Janik of Castle Rock, CO, and Kevin Cox of Lexington, KY; and 4 great grandchildren, Ellen (Michael) Swierkosz, Alex Cox, Brianna Portteus, and Lukas Janik.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by a brother, Sherrill Phelps.

 Arrangements are being handled by Ridgeway Funeral Home, 201 Dunlap Street/PO Box 788, Paris, TN 38242. Visitation will be Friday, November 15, 2024, from 11:00 am – 1:00 pm at Ridgeway Funeral Home. Her funeral service will be held Friday, November 15, 2024, at 1:00 pm at Ridgeway Funeral Home with Chad Kennedy officiating.

Family members will serve as pallbearers.

Burial will follow the service in Rose Lawn Memory Garden.
