Jean Smith Mitchell Riley, age 88, of Bartlett, Tenn., formerly of Paris, Tenn., died Wednesday, November 18, 2015, at Spring Gate Rehabilitation & Healthcare in Memphis, Tenn.
She was born on September 9, 1927, in Paris, Tenn., to the late Roy Gilbert Smith and the late Lorene Hilmus Smith.
On April 29, 1950, she married Veston Warren “Pig” Mitchell, who preceded her in death on July 16, 1969. On June 7, 1975, she married Bruce Allen Riley, who preceded her in death on January 2, 2005.
She was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Winona, MS., and a former member of First United Methodist Church in Paris, TN. She retired from North Central Savings and Loan in Winona, MS. Jean had been a bookkeeper in Paris, TN. She was active in Sunday School Class, youth & children’s ministries and choir. She graduated from Grove High School in 1945. She also was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Colonial Dames. She enjoyed playing bridge and was a member of various bridge groups.
She is survived by her son, Jeffrey "Jeff" (Anita) Mitchell of Bartlett, Tenn.; step daughter, Amber (Ron) Riley Mathews of Brandon, Miss.; and five grandchildren: Cameron Mitchell, Amanda Mitchell, Ben Mitchell, Staci Cox, and Sheryl Morgan Cook.
Arrangements are being handled by Ridgeway Funeral Home, 201 Dunlap St., Paris, Tenn., where visitation will be from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM Saturday, November 21, 2015. The Funeral Service will be at LeDon Chapel of Ridgeway Funeral Home at 11:00 am Saturday, November 21, 2015.
Michael Dunn will officiate. Interment will be at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Paris, Tenn.
The family asks that in lieu of flowers, please make a donation to The Salvation Army where granddaughter Amanda works, or the Charity of your choice.
