James “Jim” Wheatley, age 84 of Cottage Grove, TN, died Friday, March 2, 2018, at his residence.
He retired as a plant foreman from El Paso Gas Pipeline Company in Cottage Grove, TN, after 32 years of service. He was a member and deacon of Cottage Grove Baptist Church for many years. He was also a member of the Cottage Grove Lions Club, where he traveled West Tennessee in the Mobile Vision Clinic. He also served as a member of CDS in Martin, TN. He served in the US Army. He enjoyed fishing and spending time with his granddaughter and great grandsons.
Jim was born October 1, 1933, in Kenton, TN, to the late Herman Wheatley and the late Pauline Anderson Wheatley.
He was married January 14, 1954, to Bettye Mount Wheatley, who survives, of Cottage Grove, TN.
Along with his wife, he is also survived by one son, Terry (Karen) Wheatley of Cottage Grove, TN; one brother, Tommy (Janice) Wheatley of Kenton, TN; one grandchild, Rachel (Cody) Larrabee; and two great grandchildren, Liam Brown and Knox Larrabee.
Arrangements are being handled by Ridgeway Funeral Home, 201 Dunlap St, Paris, TN, where visitation will be Saturday, March 3, 2018, from 3:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m., and continue Sunday, March 4, 2018, from 2:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. The funeral service will be Sunday, March 4, 2018, at 3:00 p.m. in LeDon Chapel of Ridgeway Funeral Home with Dwight Mercer and Lane Self officiating.
Serving as pallbearers will be J.W. Akers, Trent Jones, Scott Berryman, Stacey Wheatley, Mark Chandler, and David Smith.
Burial will follow in Walker Cemetery in Paris, TN.
