James H. “Jimmy” Morris, age 74 of Puryear, TN, died Tuesday, January 18, 2022, at his residence.
Jimmy was born and raised on his parents’ farm, where he lived until his death. He graduated from Puryear High School before serving in the U.S Army in Vietnam. After serving in the Army, he worked 31 years for UPS. Jimmy was a member of First Baptist Church of Paris, where he served as a deacon, and was a long time Sunday School teacher for senior high boys. He loved fishing, hunting, gardening, tinkering in his workshop, and spending time on tractors and mowing, but most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his “girls”.
Born January 16, 1948, in Puryear, he was the son of the late Robert Love Morris, Jr., and the late Myrtle Ann Todd Morris.
He was married December 9, 1967, to Judy Moon Morris, who survives, of Puryear.
Along with his wife, he is also survived by his three daughters, Julie (John) Akers of Cottage Grove, Jeanna (David) Owens, and Jill (Jeremy) Powers, both of Paris; three sisters, Ann Brooks of Murray, KY, Betty Sue Gallimore of Puryear, and Vicky (Jimmy) Geurin of Murray; two grandchildren; Lillie (Matthew) Counce, and Caleb Akers (Summer Farley); two great grandsons, Nolan Counce and Ben Counce, and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by one sister, Jean Morris Blankenship and one brother, Bobby Morris.
Arrangements are being handled by Ridgeway Funeral Home, 201 Dunlap Street, Paris, TN 38242. Visitation will be Thursday, January 20, 2022 from 4:00 pm – 7:00 pm at Ridgeway Funeral Home and continue on Friday, January 21, 2022 from 11:00 am – 2:00 pm. The funeral service will be Friday, January 21, 2022 at 2:00 pm at Ridgeway Funeral Home with Chad Kennedy and Larry Simmons officiating.
Pallbearers for the service will be Colt Stallings, Caleb Akers, Matthew Counce, Tim Gallimore, Robert Geurin, Troy Geurin, and Kent Geurin. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Hampton Brooks, Todd Brooks, Scott Blankenship, Jimmy Blankenship, Cynthia Lawson, Matthew Moon, JD Geurin, Steve Page, and Jimmy’s nieces.
Burial with military honors will be in Olive Branch Cemetery in Cottage Grove.
Memorials may be made to the Family Resource Center Benevolence Fund, 217 Grove Boulevard, Paris, TN 38242 to aid in meeting the needs of Henry County children.
