James David "J.D." Gooch

James David “J.D.” Gooch, age 98, of Puryear, Tenn., died Friday, October 30, 2015, at his residence in Puryear, Tenn.

J.D. was a member of First United Methodist Church and the Ambassador Sunday School Class.  He was the oldest member of Paris Masonic Lodge #108 having joined in 1945 and he was a Longtime member of the Paris Rotary Club serving over 50 years.  J.D. was a Lumber Inspector for many years and was the former owner and operator of Gooch Lumber Co. in Paris.    He enjoyed traveling with his wife Betty and they had visited all 50 States.

He was born April 26, 1917 in Annis, TN to the late Thomas David Gooch and the late Lacy Simmons Gooch.

J.D. was first married to Jean Harris Gooch who died in a wreck in 1948 with their sons Jerry and Johnny Gooch.   He then married Betty Hagler Gooch September 17, 1950 and she preceded him in death June 24, 2015.

He is survived by his  One Daughter,  Jan (David) Foy of Puryear, Tenn;  One Son,  Jim (Tammy) Gooch of Paris, Tenn;  Seven Grandchildren,  Blake (Brianna) Gooch, Hunter Gooch, Staci Foy, Bryan Mullins, Breyanne (Justin) Sperry,  Jeremy Perkins, and Brittany (Will) Vaughan;  Eight Great Grandchildren,  Stefani Gooch,  Aiden Gooch, Liam Gooch, Dawson Sperry, Dalyliah Sperry, Brayden Vaughan, Addyson Vaughan, and Emerson Perkins;  and Several Nieces and Nephews.

J.D. was also preceded in death by a Son,  Dan Gooch;  Two Sisters,  Estelle Hailey,  and Helen Azbill; and Brother,  Tommy Gooch.

Arrangements are being handled by Ridgeway Funeral Home, 201 Dunlap St., Paris, Tenn., where the visitation will be from 4 – 7 pm Sunday, November  1, 2015 and from 12 – 2 pm Monday, November  2, 2015.   The Funeral Service will be at LeDon Chapel of Ridgeway Funeral Home at 2:00 pm Monday, November  2, 2015.

Rob Martin of First United Methodist Church and Mike Wimberley of Cottage Grove Methodist Church will officiate.    Masons will serve and Pallbearers and Perform Masonic Rites.    The Ambassador Class is named as Honorary Pallbearers.

Burial will follow in Maplewood Cemetery in Paris, Tenn.
