James A. "Jim" Gates, age 79 of Paris, TN, died Sunday May 5, 2019, at Mercy Health Lourdes Hospital in Paducah, KY.
He retired as a heavy equipment operator and truck driver. Jim loved tinkering with old cars, watching western movies, and spending time with his grandkids.
Jim was born November 5, 1939, in Paris, TN, to the late John C. Gates and the late Anna Pearl McBride Tucker.
He was married to Judith Ann “Judy” Gates, who preceded him in death on July 8, 2015.
He is survived by three daughters, Tamera (Chris) Dicus Green of Paducah, KY, Marsha Cosey of Knoxville, TN, and Kim (Frank) Diaz of Hammond, IN; two sons, Loy Gates of Springville, TN, and Brad (Whitney) Gates of Buchanan, TN; two brothers, Roger (Barbara) Coleman of Paris, TN, and Teddy Coleman of Big Sandy, TN; 11 grandchildren, Meagan Gates, Brandon Cosey, Breanne Gates, Ashley Gaut, Kristin Walters, Tyler Walters, Austin Walters, Zander Gates, Zoey Gates, Maddie Gates, and J.B. Gates; and nine great grandchildren.
Along with his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by two sons, James W. Gates and Steven Gates; one son-in-law, Tommie Dicus; and one brother, Larry Joe Coleman.
Arrangements are being handled by Ridgeway Funeral Home, 201 Dunlap St, Paris, TN. Visitation will be Thursday, May 9, 2019 from 4:00 pm – 6:00 pm at Ridgeway Funeral Home, and continue Friday, May 10, 2019, from 10:00 am – 10:45 am. A graveside service Friday, May 10, 2019 at 11:00 am at West Wood Cemetery, with Joe Page officiating.
Pallbearers will be Tyler Walters, Austin Walters, Zander Gates, Dustin Enoch, Ryan Gaut, and Shane Garner.
Burial will be in West Wood Cemetery in Paris, TN.
