Hilda P. Elkins

Hilda P. Elkins, age 97 of Puryear, TN, died Wednesday, December 13, 2017, at Henry County Medical Center in Paris, TN.

She was the oldest living member of Mt. Zion Church of Christ in Buchanan, TN.  She was a homemaker who enjoyed quilting and was a great cook.  She was an avid reader and an outstanding Bible student.  She loved her Chihuahua, Penny, very much and enjoyed watching the birds out her kitchen window.

Hilda was born October 16, 1920, in Beardstown, TN, to the late Arthur D. Parnell and the late Mattie Augusta Josephine Barham Parnell.

She was married May 19, 1940, to D.W. Elkins, who preceded her in death on April 7, 2003.

She is survived by one daughter, Barbara Hyde of Paris, TN; one son, D.W. “Doc” Elkins of Union City, TN; five grandchildren, Mechelle (Roger) Garland, Mitzi D. Elkins, Candice (Andy) Cavender, Todd (Stacy) McKinney, and Amy M. Jones; and two great grandchildren, Jacob T. Garland and Toby McKinney.

Along with her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by two daughters, Kaye Crews and Faye Hastings; two sons, David W. Elkins, Jr., and Donald Elkins; and one sister, Edna Cotton.

Arrangements are being handled by Ridgeway Funeral Home, 201 Dunlap St, Paris, TN, where visitation will be Monday, December 18, 2017, from 10:00 am – 1:00 pm, with the funeral service beginning at 1:00 pm at LeDon Chapel of Ridgeway Funeral Home, with Tom Sisco officiating.

Serving as pallbearers will be Todd McKinney, Roger Garland, Jacob Garland, Wayne Cotton, Jared Cotton, and Andy Cavender.

Burial will be in Mt. Zion Cemetery in Buchanan, TN.
