Gordon Taylor

Gordon Browning Taylor, age 78, of Buchanan, Tenn., died Friday, October  2, 2015, at Murray Calloway Co. Hospital in Murray, Ky.

He was married July 19, 1958 to Joyce Waller Taylor and she survives.

Gordon served 32 years as Principal for the Henry Co. School System at Buchanan School.    He taught and coached at Buchanan before becoming principal.    He later served as the Athletic Director for Henry Co. Middle Schools.    Gordon served in education field for a total of 58 years.    He was a member and Deacon at Point Pleasant Baptist Church and was an avid fisherman and former fishing guide and former marshal at Paris Landing Golf Course.   He was a Past Master of Buchanan Masonic Lodge #772.   He was an outstanding Basketball Player at Springville and Trezevant schools and Bethel College.   He once scored 80 points in a Trezevant win over Puryear.    Gordon coached the Buchanan Girls to a 3rd place finish in the State in 1959.    He was Inducted into the Henry Co., Carroll Co., and Bethel Hall of Fames.    He was also a former Henry Co. Commissioner, servings 2 terms.

Gordon was born November 18, 1936 in Adamsville, TN to the late Asa M. Taylor and the late Ethel Roberts Taylor.

Besides his wife Joyce, he is also survived by his  Two Daughters,  Sheri Bragg of Buchanan, Tenn,  Debbie (Dwayne) Barrow of Paris, Tenn;  One Brother,  Paul (Phyllis) Taylor of Memphis, Tenn;  One Half-Sister,  Nancy Johnsey of Jackson, TN;  Four Grandchildren, Jeremy Bragg, Craig Barrow, Whitney (Brad) Gates, and Kane Barrow;  One Great Grandchild, Maddisyn Gates; and several Nephews.

Besides his parents, Gordon was also preceded in death by a Sister, Lillian Taylor; and a Half-Sister, Mary Sue Williams.

Arrangements are being handled by Ridgeway Funeral Home, 201 Dunlap St., Paris, Tenn., where the visitation will be from 4 – 8 pm Saturday, October  3, 2015.  Visitation will continue at Point Pleasant Baptist Church from 1 – 2 pm Sunday, October  4, 2015.    The Funeral Service will be at Point Pleasant Baptist Church at 2:00 pm Sunday, October  4, 2015.

Larry Dukes will officiate.   Pallbearers will be Charlie Cate, Fred Patterson, Hughlett King, David Alan Jackson, Jack King, Don Wyatt, Adam Gursoy, and Marty Visser.     Named as Honorary Pallbearers are  Belinda Coats, Frank and Jolene Howell, JoPaul and Joyce Jones, Gary and Barbara Smith, Art and Connie Highland, and Sylvia Hardy.

Interment will be at Point Pleasant Cemetery in Buchanan, Tenn.
