Gene Phifer, age 87 of Glen Allen, VA, formerly of Henry County, died Tuesday, February 14, 2023, at his residence.
He retired after 29 ½ years as an EMT for the Henry County Ambulance Service. He also worked 34 years with Ridgeway Funeral Home where he served as a funeral assistant. Gene was a U.S. Air Force veteran, serving during the Korean war and retiring as Staff Sergeant. He was a longtime member of the Paris Masonic Lodge 108 where he became a Master Mason and went on to become a Shriner. He loved spending time with his family and enjoyed fishing and hunting. He was a member of Staples Mill Baptist Church in Glen Allen, VA.
Gene was born March 12, 1935, in Camden, TN, to the late Ed Phifer and the late Eva Holland Phifer.
He was married June 17, 1956, to Evonne James Phifer, who survives, of Glen Allen, VA.
Along with his wife, he is also survived by two daughters, Cindi (Steve) Burns of Montpelier, VA, and Lisa Jean (Larry) English of Rose Hill, NC; and his granddaughter, Mary Kate Burns of Montpelier, VA.
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Alma Smith and Blondell Parrish; and one brother, Cantrell Phifer.
Arrangements are being handled by Ridgeway Funeral Home, 201 Dunlap St, Paris, TN. No visitation is planned. A graveside service will be held Monday, February 20, 2023, at 11:00 am at Maplewood Cemetery in Paris, TN.
Serving as pallbearers will be Ridgeway Funeral Home Staff.
Burial will follow the graveside service in Maplewood Cemetery.
