Gary Martin Grobeck, age 76 of Paris, died Sunday, June 16, 2024, at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital in Jackson, TN.
Gary was born July 7, 1947, in Omaha NE, the son of the late Henry Grobeck and Ellen Ostergren Grobeck. He served in the US Coast Guard in Boston, MA, as the first crew of the USCGC Hamilton and was deployed to Vietnam.
While in Boston, he met his wife Beatrice “Bea” Grobeck and was married Sept 12, 1970. After serving in the Coast Guard, he returned to Omaha and spent his career as a machinist with the Union Pacific Railroad.
He enjoyed many hobbies especially riding motorcycles, woodworking, fly-fishing, and traveling but was driven by a passion for helping others that was shown through coaching, teaching, and volunteering. He taught fly-tying to scores of fly fishermen, and in retirement worked guiding fisherman on the Little Red River in Arkansas. He had a love for coaching, playing, and watching soccer.
Gary volunteered extensively for the Red Cross and was a record level blood-donor. He volunteered for motorcycle rides that supported The March of Dimes and Toys for Tots.
Gary is survived by his children, Ken (Tammy) Grobeck of Tampa, FL, Meg (Jeff) Fuson of Paris TN, and Steven Grobeck of Little Rock, AR; a sister, Linda (Tom) Heck of McKinney, TX; a brother, Ron (Kathy) Grobeck of Ottertail, MN; six grandchildren, Kacey, Karlie, Alayna, Austin, Caleb, and Gabby; and four great-grandchildren.
Ridgeway Funeral Home 201 Dunlap St., Paris, TN 38242, will be handling the arrangements. Visitation will be Friday, June 21, 2024, from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at Ridgeway Funeral Home with the funeral service to begin at 1:00 p.m.
Family members will serve as pallbearers
Burial will follow the service in Memorial Cemetery in Paris, TN.
