Francis Rudolph Prowant

Francis (Sonny) R. Prowant, 82, of Springville, TN died at St. Thomas Hospital West on Friday, August 28, 2020.  He was born February 11, 1938 in Hammond, IN, the son of Charles Daniel Prowant and Elsie Mae VanWye Prowant Hendrich.

Immediately following his high school graduation, he served 7 years with the U.S. Navy.  Upon returning home, he married Georgia May Blunk and they settled in South Haven, IN. They married on June 15, 1963, and recently celebrated 57 years of marriage.  Sonny was a member of the Masonic Lodge of the Free Masons.  He enjoyed crossword puzzles, riding his bike, driving the church bus, and overseeing Second Harvest of Henry County.  Sonny went to night school at Purdue University and received his associate degree in business while he was in his 30s.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Betsy Bennett and his step-dad Rudy Hendrich.  He is survived by his wife, Georgia May; his brother, Clyde Prowant (Diane); his son Charles M. Prowant (Sandy) of Christiana, TN, his daughter, Michelle D. Kanger (David) of Michigan City, IN; his 6 grandchildren Elizabeth Dimick (Scott), Ashley Prowant, Jordan Mauk, Caleb Prowant, Leslie Phelps (Will), and Justin Kanger (Jennifer); 4 great-grandchildren; Jordan "JJ" Mauk, Jr., Mason Dimick, and Iyana and Kamea Phelps; his nephew, Troy Prowant; and many friends, and family members.

Arrangements are being handled by Ridgeway Funeral Home, 201 Dunlap Street/PO Box 788, Paris, TN 38242.  Visitation will be Tuesday, September 8, 2020, from 3:00 pm – 6:00 pm at Ridgeway Funeral Home, and continue Wednesday, September 9, 2020, from 1:00 pm – 2:00 pm.  The funeral service will be Wednesday, September 9, 2020, at 2:00 pm at LeDon Chapel of Ridgeway Funeral Home.

Grandchildren will serve as pallbearers.

Burial will follow in the Henry County Tabernacle Cemetery in Springville, TN.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests a donation for Second Harvest in memory of Sonny Prowant made payable to New Harmony Baptist Church, 7050 State Hwy 69 S. Paris, TN 38242.
