Elwood Brogdon

Oscar Elwood Brogdon, age 89 of Puryear, TN, died Tuesday, May 14, 2024, at Obion County Nursing Home in Union City, TN.

Elwood owned and operated Brogdon’s Masonry in Nashville, TN, building homes until he retired.  He enjoyed raising cattle on his beautiful farm in Puryear, TN, and going coon hunting any chance he got.  He loved spending time with family at holidays and family gatherings over the years.  He also enjoyed fellowship with his friends, country and gospel music, and his John Wayne westerns.  He attended Sulphur Well Church of Christ.
 

Elwood was born April 8, 1935, in Cottage Grove, TN, to the late John M. Brogdon and the late Hazel L. Brogdon.  

He is survived by his five children, Anthony (Melissa) Brogdon, Shelia Brogdon, Linda Murphy, Sherry (Darle) Elkins, and Gina Brogdon-Merrell; his siblings, Johnnie (Clyde) Willis, Pat Brogdon Jackson, Sandra (Donald) Kemper, and Candy Moffitt; his grandchildren, Jennifer (Jereme) Smithey, Shelly Murphy, Gary (Teri) Murphy, Tommy Baynes, Tiffany Baynes, Kayla Spencer, Chelsea McMaster, James Merrell, Logan Brogdon, and Jason (Karoline) Meadows; and many beloved great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
 

In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his beloved wife, Eva Christine Brogdon; his former wife, Peggy Lafferty Brogdon; a son, Kenneth Brogdon; a granddaughter, Lindsey Brogdon; and seven siblings, Macon Brogdon, Geraldine Brewer, Bonnie Collins, Betty Viviano, Mary Alice Reasoner, Larry Brogdon, and Joe Dale Brogdon.
 

Arrangements are being handled by Ridgeway Funeral Home, 201 Dunlap Street/PO Box 788, Paris, TN 38242.  Visitation will be Friday, May 17, 2024, from 11:00 am – 2:00 pm at Ridgeway Funeral Home, with the funeral service beginning at 2:00 pm at Ridgeway Funeral Home.

Serving as pallbearers will be Darle Elkins, Tommy Baynes, James Merrell, Tyler Wood, Donnie Wood, and Donald Kemper.

Burial will be in Olive Branch Cemetery in Cottage Grove, TN.
