Longtime Paris Physician, William Russell "Bill" Campbell, age 74, of Paris, TN, died Saturday, October 1, 2016, at his residence in Paris, TN.
Bill was a lifetime Medical Doctor. He was a member of the Tennessee Medical Association and a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association. His hobbies were deer hunting, and historical firearms & accessories. He was a member of Paris First United Methodist Church.
He was born February 25, 1942 in Nashville, TN, to the late William Joseph Campbell and the late Elizabeth Graves Campbell.
Bill graduated from Hillsboro High School in Nashville, TN, in 1960, and Tennessee Technological University in Cookeville, TN, in 1964. He attended the University of Tennessee College of Medicine, where he graduated in 1967. Bill served his internship and residency at Methodist Hospital in Memphis, TN. He was a Medical Doctor in Piggott, AR, for one year before coming to Eastwood Clinic where he practiced for 32 years.
As a member of the US Navy, he served as a Lieutenant Commander in Vietnam from 1970-1971, where he received the Navy Commendation Medal with combat “V” for Valor.
Bill was married January 6, 1968, to Martha Fridenberg Campbell, who survives.
Along with his wife, he is survived by Joseph Russell (Shani) Campbell of Dover, TN; Lee Michelle Campbell (Todd) Whisenant of Lake Wylie, SC, and Sara Elizabeth “Beth” Campbell & friend Jeff Berg of Moclips, WA; a brother, Kevin Gray Campbell of Arrington, TN; grandchildren, William “Will” Todd Whisenant, Campbell “Camp” Lee Whisenant, William “Joe” Joseph Campbell, and Shelby Dian Campbell; two nieces, Virginia “Ginny” Jones Reed, and Bonnie Jones Hillier; and two cousins, Patrick Campbell and Joe McTigue.
Besides his parents, he was also preceded in death by a sister, Elizabeth Campbell Jones; and a brother, John Mark Campbell.
Arrangements are being handled by Ridgeway Funeral Home, 201 Dunlap St., Paris, TN, where a celebration of life visitation will be from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Paris Convention Center Tuesday, October 4, 2016, and from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM Wednesday, October 5, 2016, at Ridgeway Funeral Home. The funeral service will be at 12:00 PM Wednesday, October 5, 2016, at LeDon Chapel of Ridgeway Funeral Home.
Gary Collier and Dr. Joseph A. Geary will officiate.
Pallbearers will be Will Whisenant, Campbell Whisenant, Joe Campbell, Tony Carter, Chuck Stevens, Dr. Wayne McGee, Patrick Campbell, and Andy Hooper.
Honorary pallbearers will be all retired Doctors from Eastwood Clinic in Paris, TN.
Interment will be at Campbell Cemetery in Paris, TN.
