Longtime Paris Physician, Dr. D.M. “Mickey” Norman, age 84 of Springville, TN, died Friday, June 14, 2024, at Henry County Medical Center in Paris.
He was a physician & the fourth partner at Eastwood Clinic in Paris where he practiced medicine for 36 years. During his time in Paris, Dr. Norman delivered approximately 3,000 babies, most of whom he has pictures of. He attended The University of Mississippi, where he played football, and got accepted to medical school before graduating. He went on to attend med school at The University of Tennessee at Memphis, graduating sixth in his class. Before coming to Paris, Dr. Norman served two years in the U.S. Army as a doctor at Camp Pickett in Virginia.
Dr. Norman coached Paris Little League baseball for 13 years, helping them win their first state championship in 1986. He was an avid Kentucky and Ole Miss fan, but Henry County High School football was his passion. He served as the team doctor for over 30 years. From the time he began his medical practice in Paris, Dr. Norman made sure that all HCHS football players received their physicals for free. He assisted in building the lockers in the newly renovated HCHS fieldhouse. He always supported & loved all HCHS sports.
He enjoyed fishing, loved to travel, and followed his grandchildren playing sports all over the country, as far away as California. He was a longtime member of FUMC Paris & faithfully attended First Christian Church.
Dr. Norman was born October 8, 1939, in Paducah, KY, to the late Dwight Lee Norman and the late Dortha Meacham Norman.
He was married July 28, 1962, to his wife of almost 62 years, Jan Nichols Norman, who survives, of Springville, TN.
Along with his wife, he is survived by his daughter, Michelle (Laddie) Renfroe of Olive Branch, MS; his two sons, Coach Michael Norman of Paris, TN, and Andrew (Sherry) Norman of Paris, TN; four grandchildren, Ashley (Jeff) Sandvig, Andrew (Chelsea) Dowdy, Nicholas (Elizabeth) Norman, and Dallas (Eason) Shaffer, and three grandchildren by marriage, Lindsey Moseley, Austin (Cassie) Moseley, and Alaina (Jacob) Hornbrook; 15 great grandchildren; and his special nurses, Jean Brogdon and Mara Lynn Richardson.
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by one daughter-in-law, Beth Lundblad Norman; one sister, Nancy Norman Miller; and one grandchild, Michael Troy Dowdy.
Arrangements are being handled by Ridgeway Funeral Home, 201 Dunlap Street/PO Box 788, Paris, TN 38242. Visitation will be Monday, June 17, 2024, from 4:00 pm – 8:00 pm at Ridgeway Funeral Home, and continue Tuesday, June 18, 2024, from 10:00 am – 11:00 am at First Christian Church, 101 S. Poplar Street, Paris, TN 38242. The funeral service will be Tuesday, June 18, 2024, at 11:00 am at First Christian Church with Rev. Christy Jo Harber officiating.
Serving as pallbearers will be Andrew Dowdy, Nicholas Norman, Jeff Sandvig, Eason Shaffer, Austin Moseley, and Jacob Hornbrook. Named as honorary pallbearers are Jack Nichols, Franklin VanDyke, Raymond VanDyke, David Owens, Paul Veazey, Bill Warren, Tom Higgs, Bob Saville, and Leon Ridgeway.
Burial will follow the funeral service in Maplewood Cemetery in Paris, TN.
