Dorris Wayne "Doc" Elkins

Dorris Wayne “Doc” Elkins, age 71 of Union City, TN, died Monday, September 10, 2018, at his daughter’s residence in Hazel, KY.

He retired after 30 years at Goodyear Tire in Union City, TN.  He was a U.S. Army veteran who served during the Vietnam era.  Doc was a member of the VFW and the American Legion.  He enjoyed collecting coins, playing cards, and fishing in his younger years.  He was a dedicated monthly supporter of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

Doc was born September 15, 1946, in Centerville, TN, to the late David William Elkins, Sr., and the late Hilda Parnell Elkins.

He is survived by two daughters, Mechelle (Roger) Garland of Hazel, Ky, and Mitzie Elkins of Hazel, KY; one sister, Barbara Elkins Hyde of Paris, TN; one grandson, Jacob Garland; special niece, Candice (Andy) Cavender of Bruceton, TN; another niece, Kamille McKinney Jones of Paris, TN; one great-nephew, Toby McKinney of Paris, TN; special friend, Margaret Reasons of Big Sandy, TN; and caregiver and special family friend, Holly Ly of New Providence, KY.

Along with his parents, he was also preceded in death by two sisters, Kaye Elkins Crews and Faye Elkins Hastings; two brothers, David Elkins, Jr., and Donald Elkins; and one nephew, William Todd McKinney.

Arrangements are being handled by Ridgeway Funeral Home, 201 Dunlap St, Paris, TN.  A graveside service will be held Thursday, September 13, 2018, at 2:00 pm at Mt. Zion Cemetery near Buchanan, TN, with Randy Stephens officiating.

Serving as pallbearers will be Autry Robinson, Wayne Cotton, Roger Garland, and Jacob Garland.

Burial will follow the graveside service in Mt. Zion Cemetery.
