Dorothy Mizell Diggs was born November 28, 1919 to Ethelder Elery and Susie Cannon Mizell in the VanDyke community of Henry County. She graduated from Henry school where she was an outstanding basketball player. After finishing high school she worked at Salant and Salant in Paris where she met her future husband.
In 1942 she married George Alexander Diggs while he was serving in the Army during WW II. After the war years they returned to Jones Bend Road in Paris where they farmed and raised their family. After her children were out of grade school she worked at Mitchum Company until it was sold.
She was a wonderful Christian wife and mother and was a dedicated member of Sulphur Well Church of Christ. Known as Mama Dot to family and friends, she was artistically gifted creating paintings, quilts, clothing, crocheted pieces, floral arrangements, and handiwork of all kinds. She also enjoyed entertaining family and friends with wonderful meals.
Five children were born to the Diggs: Pamela Zandra (Jim) Hamilton of Buchanan, Phyllis Gail (Thomas) Lemonds of Paris, Rita Kay Crowe (Bobby) Flowers of Paris, George Ernest (Janis) Diggs of Buchanan and Jo Ellen Diggs who died in infancy.
Grandchildren are Tina (Walter) Proctor of Murray, KY, Bill (Kimmy) Hamilton of Mount Dora, FL, James (Andi) Hamilton of Buckhead, GA, Monya (Ed) Burrell of Woodstock, GA, Will Lemonds and Jeremy (Andrea) Lemonds of Paris, Damon (Mary Ann) Crowe of Nashville, Charlie (Ashley) Crowe of Huntsville, AL, Joe Pat Crowe of Nashville, Kasey (Daniel) George of Murfreesboro, Jenny (Jason) Carroll of Haiti, Clint (Melissa) Diggs of Paris, Wesley (Kristin) Diggs of Nashville and JoEllen (Kevin) Buckley of Nashville.
Great Grandchildren are Logan and Peyton Proctor, Nikki, Alex and JD Hamilton, Ashley Jackson, Dakota and Hannah Lemonds, Emily and Eva Lemonds, AnnAlise, Hardy and Gus George, Chantry, Cole Callie and Edyson Carroll, Evelyn, Anson, Josie, Sophia, Caleb and Karina Diggs, Annie and Mary Claire Diggs.
Great Great grandchildren are Braelyn Sanders and Rhett Lemonds.
She is also survived by her sister, Estelle Parker of Henry.
She was preceded in death by her husband George who died in June of 2000 after 58 years of marriage; daughter, Jo Ellen Diggs; sisters, Celeste Parker and Mary B. Foust; and brother, Joe Mizell.
Visitation will be at Ridgeway Funeral Home Tuesday from 4 – 7 pm and after 9 am Wednesday until the service at 10 am at LeDon Chapel of Ridgeway Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Johnson Chapel Cemetery. Randy Stephens will officiate and Pallbearers will be Grandsons.
