The funeral service for retired Henry County Highway Department bridge foreman Charles William Grooms of the Whitlock community will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Ridgeway Funeral Home.
Mike Schroeder and David Alan Jackson will officiate. Burial will be in Walker Cemetery.
Selected as pallbearers are Keith, Tony, Gary and Scott Grooms, Jason Schroeder, Brian Solowey, Danny Freeman and Stacey Nored.
Robert Bowden, Ronnie Bell and Ray Norwood will be honorary pallbearers.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Wednesday and after 9 a.m. Thursday.
Grooms, 81, died Sunday, July 14, 2013, at his residence.
His wife, Betty Sue Ridgeway Grooms, survives. They were married on Aug. 11, 1953.
Born in Paris on Dec. 17, 1931, he was a son of the late William Felix and Pearl Holliday Grooms.
Grooms was a member of Cottage Grove Church of Christ and the Cottage Grove Lions Club. A U.S. Air Force veteran of 20 years, he served in Vietnam. He retired after 28 years with the Henry County Highway Department.
In addition to his wife, he leaves one daughter: Debra Sue (Mike) Schroeder of Claremore, Okla.; one son: David Charles Grooms of Hendersonville; six grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
He also was preceded in death by a brother: James Grooms.
