Carolyn Spurgeon

Carolyn LaRue Spurgeon, age 82, formerly of Paris, died Monday, January 29, 2024, at her residence in Union City, TN.

Carolyn formerly worked at Holley Carburetor and Salant Salant Shirt Factory. She then worked several years at Wal-Mart in Paris. She was an All-State Basketball player in 1959 for Buchanan High School and a member of the Henry County Sports Hall of Fame. Carolyn enjoyed attending many of her grandchildren’s sporting events in Union City, Jackson and across the country.

Carolyn was born January 2, 1942, in the Antioch community of Henry County, to the late Herman Franklin Thompson and the late Jozelle Blount Thompson.

She was married, July 17, 1963, to Paul Warren Spurgeon who preceded her in death in 2006.

She is survived by two children, Kyle (Melissa) Spurgeon of Jackson, TN, and Amy (Kevin) Paschall of Union City, TN; one sister, Mary Jo Hubbard of Buchanan, TN; one sister in law, Louise Spurgeon; six grandchildren, Blake (Mel) Spurgeon, Shelby Spurgeon (Hunter Williamson), Matthew Spurgeon, Graham Paschall, Thompson Paschall, and Reese Paschall; and one great granddaughter, Sutton Williamson; nieces and nephews, Gary Hubbard, Judy (Don) Cox, Cheryl (David) Lassiter, Doug (Debbie) Jackson, Brian (Diana) Spurgeon, Brad Spurgeon, and Ashley Spurgeon; multiple great nieces, great nephews and cousins.

In addition to her parents and her husband, she was also preceded in death by a sister, Olleen Jackson.

Arrangements are being handled by Ridgeway Funeral Home, 201 Dunlap St, Paris, TN.  Visitation will be Thursday, February 1, 2024, from 5:00 pm – 8:00 pm at Ridgeway Funeral Home and after 10 am on Friday, February 2, 2024, until the service time at 11:30 am, with Tom Sisco and John Dale officiating.

Blake Spurgeon, Matthew Spurgeon, Graham Paschall, Thompson Paschall, Reese Paschall and Hunter Williamson will serve as pallbearers. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Gary Hubbard, David Lassiter, Doug Jackson, Don Cox, (Uncle) Rickey Searcy, Brian Spurgeon, and Brad Spurgeon.

Burial will follow in Hillcrest Memorial Park.
