Carol Sue Holden, age 70 of Paris, died Sunday, August 29, 2021, at Saint Thomas West Hospital in Nashville, TN.
Born December 28, 1950, in Troy, TN, she was the daughter of the late William E. Griffin and the late Dorothy N. Williams Griffin.
Carol graduated from Obion County Central High School in 1968, then earned her bachelor’s degree from the University of Tennessee at Martin in 1972. Her first job was working for UTM. After working several jobs in Henry and Carroll Counties, she worked 12 years at PMB before retiring. Carol was a member of First United Methodist Church in Paris for 46 years. She loved singing in the choir and participating in the handbell choir at First Methodist. She also enjoyed volunteering with the Second Harvest food distribution at FUMC Paris. Carol also enjoyed playing the clarinet for the PHC Community Concert Band and serving on the board of directors of the Paris Henry County Chamber Music Society. She was very helpful to Mike in organizing and making sure band members had anything and everything they needed by way of music. She was a devoted wife, parent, and grandparent. Carol loved taking care of her family.
Carol was married June 19, 1975, to Mike Holden, who survives of Paris.
Along with her husband, survivors also include her daughter, Allison M. (MAJ James M.) Burton of Ansbach, Germany; her son, Jonathon (Rhonda Leah) Holden of Millington, TN; a brother, William David “Buddy” (Sherry) Griffin of Troy, TN; three grandchildren, Morgan Michael Burton, Lola Camille Burton, and Natalie Jade Holden; and several nieces and nephews on both sides of the family.
Arrangements are being handled by Ridgeway Funeral Home 201 Dunlap St./ PO Box 788 Paris, TN 38242. Visitation will be Friday, September 3, 2021, from 4-7 PM at Ridgeway Funeral Home, and continue Saturday, September 4, 2021, from 1-2 PM at First United Methodist Church, 101 E. Blythe Street, Paris, TN 38242. Her funeral service will be held Saturday, September 4, 2021, at 2 PM at First United Methodist Church with Mike Wimberley, Joy Weathersbee, and Harlon McBride officiating.
Pallbearers for the service are Tim Boyd, Russell Brown, Adam Griffin, Michael Lawler, Harlon McBride, and David Newbill. Honorary pallbearers are members of the PHC Community Concert Band and the Mike Holden Jazz Orchestra, Roger Burke, Gabe Claxton, Lucas Claxton, Samuel Claxton, Mark Coley, Jaime Fairbanks, Annias Haney, Chuck Haney, Jonathan Haney, James Henning, Joe Holland, Harold Jackson, Bernd Kollmann, John Massa, Mickey Mooney, David Nash, Michael Nelson, Stephen Rowlett, Chris Watson, and James Young.
Burial will follow the service in Olive Branch Cemetery in the Como community of Henry County at 2469 Highway 140 N, Cottage Grove, TN 38224.
