Bettie Compton Godfrey, age 87 of Vestavia Hills, AL and longtime resident of Paris, TN, died Wednesday, August 23, 2017.
Bettie was a member of Vestavia Hills Baptist Church. She was a former Music teacher in the Paris Special School District. She taught private piano lessons for many years to countless young people. She played piano and organ at First Baptist Church, Maplewood Baptist, First Christian and First Presbyterian Church all in Paris. Bettie enjoyed playing in a trio for several years with Monte VanDyck and Joe Routon.
Bettie was born October 27, 1929 in Burlington, NC to the late Judson R. Compton and the late Maude Burke Compton.
Bettie was married to Blake Godfrey, Sr. on June 27, 1953 and he preceded her in death on January 2, 1995. She is survived by her daughter, Meg (Ray) Hyde of Vestavia Hills, AL; two grandchildren, Marty (Mandi) Waddell, III, and Catie Wolfe; and six great grandchildren, Maddison Waddell, Raven Waddell, Violet Waddell, Wesley Waddell, IV, Amelia Wolfe, and Zoe Wolfe.
Besides her husband and parents, Bettie was also preceded in death by her son, Blake Godfrey, Jr.
Arrangements are being handled by Ridgeway Funeral Home, 201 Dunlap St, Paris, TN where visitation will be Saturday, August 26, 2017 from 12 – 1 pm. A graveside service will be Saturday, August 26, 2017 at 1:30 pm at Rose Lawn Memory Garden with Paul Veazey officiating.
Burial will follow in Rose Lawn Memory Garden in Paris, TN.
In Lieu of Flowers, memorials may be made to the Music Program at the Church of your Choice.
