Berniece Wiseman, age 99 of Sanford, FL, formerly of Stewart County and Henry County, died Saturday, November 28, 2020, in Florida.
She retired from Woolworth’s in Duncan, OK, in 1982, and moved to Dover, TN. She went on to move to the Land Between the Lakes area, then to Paris, then to Florida. Berniece enjoyed vegetable gardening and flower gardening. She enjoyed fishing and loved feeding hummingbirds. She was a member and founder of Jesus Saves Baptist Church in Buchanan.
Berniece was born July 21, 1921, in Gates, TN, to the late Harry Thurmond and the late Annie Mae Childress Thurmond.
She was married to James Raleigh Wiseman, who preceded her in death on June 26, 1984.
She is survived by seven nieces, Pat Miller, Ann Hoffhous, Carolyn Bequette, Karen Rudd, Debbie Thurmond, Cindy, and Ruby Nell; and two nephews, Kenneth Thurmond and Gary Waldron.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by her grandparents, Flavious Josephus Thurmond, Nancy Tennessee Tomlinson, and John Wesley Childress; two sisters, Cornelia Melvin and one sister who died at birth; four brothers, Talmadge Dawing Thurmond, Harry Kenneth Thurmond, Ralph Elon Thurmond, and Orgill R. Thurmond; one niece, Sandra Wright; and one nephew, Mike Waldron.
Arrangements are being handled by Ridgeway Funeral Home, 201 Dunlap St/PO Box 788, Paris, TN 38242. Visitation will be Saturday, December 5, 2020, from 11:00 am – 12:00 pm at Ridgeway Funeral Home, the funeral service beginning at 12:00 pm at LeDon Chapel of Ridgeway Funeral Home, with Danny Long officiating.
Family & friends will serve as pallbearers.
Burial will be in Taylor Cemetery in Stewart County, TN.
