The funeral service for lifelong farmer Ben Henry Nanney Sr. of Paris will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Shady Grove Baptist Church, where he was a member.
Jack Criswell will officiate. Burial will follow in Shady Grove Cemetery.
Chosen as pallbearers are Chuckie Cissell, Glenn and Jason Nanney, Frankie Nance, Stacey Nored and Leon Rogers.
Honorary pallbearers will be Joe Vitale and Jackie Williams.
Visitation is scheduled from 4-8 p.m. today and 10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Saturday at Ridgeway Funeral Home.
Nanney, 94, died Thursday, July 11, 2013, at his residence.
His wife, Eleanora “Pat” Bleier Nanney, survives. They were married on April 30, 1988. Born July 4, 1919, in Paris, he was a son of the late Luther Deaton and Frankie Wallace Nanney. A U.S. Navy veteran, he served on the USS Relief. He formerly worked in construction for DuPont and at the Milan Arsenal. He also owned and operated a dozer business. He was a former member of the Henry County Election Commission.
Besides his wife, he leaves two daughters: Nancy N. Nanney of McKenzie and Carolyn B. Nanney of Paris; one son: Ben (Martha) Nanney Jr. of Paris; four grandchildren: Brent Nanney of Knoxville, William Ryan Nanney of Henry, Brittany Horton of Napa, Calif., and Justin Horton of Fort Polk, La.; and one great-grandchild.
He also was preceded in death by a sister: Beatrice Nanney in infancy; and five brothers: L.D., Jeffery, Arthur, Wayne and Wallace Nanney.
