Barbara Smith Muzzall, age 82 of Paris, died Saturday, November 18, 2017, at her residence.
She retired as the business manager of the Paris Henry County Clinic. She previously had worked as a medical office assistant to Dr. W.G. Rhea Sr. Barbara was a member of First Baptist Church where she attended the Lydia Dorcas Sunday School Class. She was a member of the Rotary Club and was the first woman inducted into the local club in December 1991. She held the distinction of being a Certified Professional Secretary that she earned in 1986 and was the first in Henry County to earn this title. Also in 1986 she was named as Secretary of the Year for the state of Tennessee. Her hobbies included growing flowers and arranging them.
Born May 31, 1935, in Springville, TN, she was the daughter of the late Johnnie Thomas Smith and the late Juliet Doty Smith.
She married Lemuel Muzzall June 19, 1954, who preceded her in death Feb. 8, 2016.
Survivors include her daughter: Sonia (Mark) Tighe of Tampa, FL; her son: Jim (Margarita) Muzzall of Arlington, VA; a sister: Marilyn Townsend of McKenzie, TN and four grandchildren: Sean Tighe, Ashley Tighe, Rafael Muzzall and Fiorella Muzzall.
Along with her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by three sisters: Diana Clement, Ann Smith and Jeanette Reese; and two brothers: Lucian Smith and John Thomas Smith.
Ridgeway Funeral Home will be handling the arrangements. Visitation will be Friday, November 24, 2017, beginning at 9 am at the funeral home. Her funeral service will be at 11 am on Friday in the LeDon Chapel of Ridgeway Funeral Home with Trent Bullock and Larry Simmons officiating.
Pallbearers for the service are Sean Tighe, Jim Clement, Randy Smith, Caleb Townsend, Alex Bomar and Jimmy Bomar. Honorary Pallbearers are Gordon Owen, Carroll Lashlee and Kenneth Askew along with past and present personnel of Paris Henry County Clinic, members of the Lydia Dorcas Sunday School Class and the members of Paris Rotary Club.
Burial will follow in Memorial Cemetery in Paris.
