Bailey Smith Wimberley, age 82, of Paris, TN, died Saturday, June 10, 2017, at Paris Healthcare & Rehabilitation Center in Paris, TN.
Bailey served for over 30 years in law enforcement in Paris & Henry County, serving as Chief Deputy under four sheriffs. He also served as Land Between the Lakes Patrolman for several years, and retired from the Henry County Highway Department. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, especially bird, fox and coon hunting. He was a member of McDavid Grove Baptist Church in Springville, TN.
He was born February 19, 1935, in Model, TN, to the late John Rudie Wimberley and the late Mary Marie Sills Wimberley.
He was married June 30, 1963, to Mary Nell Hooper Wimberley, who preceded him in death on October 25, 2016.
He is survived by his three daughters, Charlotte (Jimmy) Hudgins of Paris, TN, Tammy (Doug) Muench of Paris, TN, and Denise Foust of Paris, TN; one son, Danny (Sue) Brown of Port Hueneme, CA; one brother Robert F. (Betty) Wimberley of Springville, TN; one brother-in-law, John O’Connell of Chicago, IL; 13 grandchildren, Susan (Sam) Hager, Jamie (Janet) Hudgins, Ben (Christina) Brown, Jonathan Hudgins, Jill Dowdy, Jesse (Adrien) Cooley, Micah Brown, Jennifer (Philip) Cooley-Robinson, Will Foust, Keturah (James) Blood, Katie Foust, Josh (Ashley) Muench, and Ryan (Kasey) Muench; and 32 great grandchildren, J.T. Hudgins, Melissa (David) McDade, John Allen, Michael (Genesis) Allen, Parker McDade, Bennett McDade, Lindsey Allen, Brett Dowdy, Alex Dowdy, Waylon Dowdy, Anna Grace Livingston, Nora Russell, Wesley Scates, Aaron Hager, Jacob Hager, A.J. Hager, Courtney Hudgins, Seth Hudgins, Joseph Hudgins, Lindsey Hudgins, Emily Brown, Isaac Brown, Allison Brown, Owen Brown, Andrew Brown, Noah Robinson, Ezra Robinson, Brandon Muench, Collin Muench, Cannon Muench, Aubrey Muench, and Memphis Tharpe.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was also preceded in death by a son, Bailey Smith Wimberley, Jr.; three sisters, Virginia Dare Wimberley, Mary Evelyn Wimberley, and Margaret Louise Wimberley O’Connell; two brothers, J.R. Wimberley, Jr., and Homer Sills Wimberley; and one great grandchild, Nathan Hudgins.
Arrangements are being handled by Ridgeway Funeral Home, 201 Dunlap St, Paris, TN, where visitation will be Sunday, June 11, 2017, from 4:00 pm – 7:00 pm, and continue Monday June 12, 2017, from 1:00 pm – 2:00 pm. The funeral service will be at 2:00 pm Monday, June 12, 2017, at LeDon Chapel of Ridgeway Funeral Home, with Charles Cate and Sheriff Monte Belew officiating.
Pallbearers will be members of the Henry County Sheriff’s Department. Honorary pallbearers will be grandchildren.
Burial will follow in Poplar Grove Cemetery in Springville, TN.
