Arthur “Art” Mealer, age 86 of Paris, TN, died Friday, August 23, 2024, at Henry County Healthcare Center in Paris, TN.
Art was born October 18, 1937, in Chicago, IL, to the late Hilliard Mealer and the late Lida O’Guin Mealer.
He and his family moved to Obion, TN in 1947, and he graduated from Cloverdale High School in 1955. He enlisted in the United States Air Force, serving from 1957-1960. Art worked for 36 years at Jewel Food Stores in the warehouse as foreman. He was a talented artist in oils. He loved writing, once had a blog site, and later wrote on Facebook, hoping to lead people to Christ. Art also wrote two books, “The Harvest Principle” and “God, Reward, and Punishment: Are They Real?” He loved people, animals, and God.
He was married January 30, 1959, to his wife of 60 years, Inge Mealer, who he met in Germany. She preceded him in death on April 26, 2019. Art is now reunited with his beloved Inge.
He is survived by his son, Walter “Tom” (Debby) Mealer of Benton, KY; his brother, Earl (Sandy) Mealer of Puryear, TN; four grandchildren; and many great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was also preceded in death by one daughter, Donna Putnam; and two sons, Craig Mealer and Kevin Mealer.
Arrangements will be handled by Ridgeway Funeral Home, 201 Dunlap St., Paris, TN, 38242. The body is to be cremated with a memorial service to be held at a later date.
